As a ubiquitous desktop item, the mug is often used as an object of art or advertisement; some mugs are rather decorations than drinking vessels. Carving had been traditionally applied to mugs in the ancient times. Deforming a mug into unusual shape is used sometimes. However, the most popular decoration technique nowadays is printing on mugs.

The two most common modern method are as follows:

Screen Printing Method

Ceramic powder is mixed with dyes of chosen color and a plasticizer. Then it is printed on a gelatin-coated paper using a traditional screen-printing technique, which applies the mixture through a fine woven mesh, which is stretched on a frame and has a mask of desired shape. This technique produces a thin homogeneous coating; however, if smoothness is not required, the ceramic mixture is painted directly with a brush. This technique is limited to NON-photographic images. This is very much the same as silkscreen printing in tshirt wherein you are also limited to shapes and letters.

Decal Method

This involves loading the water-slide decal paper into your printer so that when the image is printed, it will print on the glossy side. Once the design is printed on the decal paper the printed image is sprayed with an acrylic spray and left to dry. The dried image is cut out and place in water until the paper backing separates from the decal. The separated decal is then applied to the mug and blot with paper towel, sponge, or rag until it holds to the mug. Then another process of drying is done. The disadvantage here is that the decal can be easily scratch and removed therefore this kind of method is only used for mugs that are made for decoration purposes only.

Our method is faster, straightforward, and very durable.

We use a technique called Sublimation Method.

The sublimation process begins by printing a color accurate design on paper using sublimation inks. The printed paper is then placed or wrapped around the 100% polymer coated mug and then pushed through our mug press machine. The heat transforms the ink into gas, which permeates the polymer coating. Once the heat process is complete and the air hits the mug, the polymer coating closes, capturing the ink permanently. The end result, a precise replica of the printed design appears on the mug. This means that the design is durable and cannot be easily removed and therefore this personalized mug can be used on a regular basis.
